About modular-flare

Dedicated to providing exceptional care for animals across the United Kingdom since 2009.

Our Story

modular-flare was founded on a simple observation: pets weren't receiving the individualised attention they deserved. Too often, animals were processed through facilities with little regard for their unique personalities, anxieties, or preferences.

Our founder, Charlotte, spent twelve years as a veterinary nurse before opening a small grooming studio in 2009. She wanted to create a space where every pet received care as thoughtful as what she'd provide her own animals. That first year, working alone from a converted garage, she groomed approximately two hundred dogs and cats.

Word spread quickly. Pet owners appreciated the patience shown to nervous animals, the attention to detail in grooming, and the genuine affection Charlotte demonstrated toward every creature in her care. Within three years, demand had grown enough to require additional staff and larger premises.

By 2015, modular-flare had expanded into comprehensive pet care services including boarding, training, and veterinary coordination. We moved to our current purpose-built facility in 2018, which features separate climate-controlled areas for different animal types, secure outdoor exercise spaces, and specialist equipment for various grooming and care needs.

Throughout this growth, our fundamental approach hasn't changed. We still treat each animal as an individual, take time to understand their requirements, and prioritise their comfort above efficiency. Every member of our team shares this philosophy, which is why many have been with us for over half a decade.

Our Values

Compassion First

Every decision we make prioritises the wellbeing and comfort of the animals in our care. Profitability never overrides what's right for a pet.

Professional Excellence

We invest heavily in training, certifications, and continuing education. Our team stays current with best practices in animal care, behaviour, and health.

Transparent Communication

Pet owners deserve honest information about their animal's care. We provide clear updates, acknowledge mistakes if they occur, and never withhold important information.

Individual Attention

No two pets are identical. We design care approaches based on each animal's specific temperament, history, and needs rather than applying standardised procedures.

Continuous Improvement

We regularly review our methods, facilities, and outcomes. Feedback from pet owners and advances in animal care science inform our ongoing development.

Community Responsibility

We support local animal welfare organisations, provide reduced-rate services for rescue animals, and contribute to education about responsible pet ownership.

Our Facilities

In 2018, we moved into a purpose-designed facility that allows us to provide optimal care across all our services. The building was planned with extensive input from veterinary professionals and animal behaviourists to create environments that minimise stress and maximise comfort.

Climate-Controlled Spaces

All indoor areas maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels appropriate for different species. Separate zones for dogs and cats prevent stress from inter-species interaction.

Grooming Stations

Four dedicated grooming areas equipped with hydraulic tables, professional dryers, and breed-specific tools. Non-slip surfaces and secure restraints ensure safety without discomfort.

Boarding Accommodations

Individual kennels and cat suites designed for comfort, with raised beds, natural light, and acoustic dampening to reduce noise stress. Larger suites available for multiple pets from the same household.

Exercise Areas

Secure outdoor spaces including a large field for active dogs, a smaller area for elderly or nervous animals, and a separate garden for cats who enjoy supervised outdoor time.

Training Room

An indoor training space free from external distractions, equipped with agility equipment and various training aids. Suitable for both individual and small group sessions.

Medical Room

A dedicated space for medication administration, health checks, and isolation of any animals who become unwell. Stocked with first aid supplies and connected to emergency veterinary support.

Qualifications & Accreditations

Our commitment to professional standards is reflected in the qualifications our team maintains and the accreditations we hold.

Veterinary Nursing

Our founder and senior staff hold RVN (Registered Veterinary Nurse) qualifications from accredited institutions.

Professional Grooming

All groomers hold City & Guilds Level 3 diplomas in Dog Grooming and attend annual continuing education courses.

Animal Training

First Aid

Every staff member completes animal first aid training and recertifies every three years through ProTrainings.

Insurance & Licensing

We maintain comprehensive public liability insurance and hold all required local authority licenses for animal boarding and care.

Health & Safety

Our premises undergo regular inspections and we maintain detailed health and safety protocols approved by industry bodies.

Community Involvement

We believe businesses have responsibilities beyond their immediate commercial interests. modular-flare actively supports animal welfare in our community through several initiatives.

Since 2012, we've provided discounted grooming and boarding services to local rescue organisations, helping them present animals in the best condition for adoption. We estimate this has supported over three hundred rescue animals in finding permanent homes.

Our team regularly visits schools to deliver workshops on responsible pet ownership, teaching children about animal needs, behaviour, and welfare. These sessions reach approximately five hundred students annually.

We partner with a local veterinary charity that provides low-cost treatment to pets whose owners are experiencing financial hardship. modular-flare contributes both financially and through in-kind donations of grooming and care services.

Each year, we host an open day where the public can tour our facilities, meet our team, and learn about various aspects of pet care. These events also raise funds for animal welfare charities through raffles and donations.

Looking Forward

After seventeen years of growth, we continue to identify areas for improvement and expansion. Our focus remains on enhancing the quality of care rather than simply increasing capacity.

Recent investments include advanced grooming equipment that reduces stress for anxious animals, upgraded monitoring systems for our boarding areas, and expanded training for our team in feline behaviour and exotic pet care.

We're currently developing partnerships with additional veterinary specialists to provide even more comprehensive health support for the animals in our care. This includes relationships with veterinary behaviourists, dermatologists, and physiotherapists who can advise on complex cases.

Our long-term vision includes establishing an education centre where aspiring pet care professionals can receive training in our methods and philosophy. We want to contribute to raising standards across the industry by sharing what we've learned over nearly two decades.

Whatever changes we make, our core commitment remains constant: every animal deserves to be treated with patience, respect, and genuine care. That principle guided us when we were a one-person operation, and it will continue to guide us as we grow.
